21.03.2023 Hour four of Tuesday night client's Muay Thai course brought us onto the clinch. Clinching is such a defining part of Muay Thai that it is often taught as a separate lesson in addition to its inclusion in regular classes. Understanding the clinch provides a nak muay with a better context for his other techniques. I taught clinch using the circular teaching method. We trained techniques and drills before sparring and then immediately looked at areas my client struggled with in sparring to train techniques more in depth. We began with some basic conditioning exercises for clinching positions. This moved into breaking posture exercises and sweeps. We then sparred for 5 x 3 minute rounds: Round 1 - Clinching only Round 2 - Ditto Round 3 - Clinches with strikes Round 4 - Ditto Round 5 - Freestyle with a focus to integrate the clinch My client wished to look more on a better integration of knee strikes. We did this using the belly pad where all the earlier clinching drills were performed with the addition of relevant knee strikes. Going to the focus mitts, we isolated spear, diagonal, curved and horizontal knee strikes. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
