23.03.2022 My final two lessons on Wednesday were my junior MMA and senior submission grappling lessons. In the former we went through standard defences from the back in the MMA. In order of priority mixed martial artists seek to escape, to sweep, to submit from guard. The advantages of gravity offered to a striker makes the guard a much more dangerous place in mixed martial arts compared to submission grappling. We looked at the hip-out escape to the feet, drilled first in shadow work and then with a partner. Next we looked at the hip-bump sweep, one of the simplest reversals from guard yet continues to be very effective in competition. Finally, we looked at the basic Kimura submission from guard. This key-lock pairs well with the hip-bump set-up. The senior class first covered intercepting prior to allowing the opponent to bring in their knee shield or Z-guard. Then we looked at transitioning to this and passing from the knee-shield. The lesson finished with 2 x 5 minutes of specific sparring (guard passing) and static stretching. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
