Hour eight of my couple client's course continued our focus on the double-leg takedown. We looked at adjusting distance and level. Quite simply the biggest general problems people often suffer when they try to execute the double-leg takedown is they don't get close enough and they don't get low enough. The shoot can start at any distance, but the knee has to lead.
We set up a game whereby I stood on a line running horizontally across the middle of my feet that my clients had to get their knee past. The game is stacked against me, but the clients quickly notice what did and did not break my posture. Extra details included gripping below the knees with the arms, keeping his upper body upright and using the far side leg to prop and drive from the side at an angle. Later, I introduced an outer reap using the far side leg.
