My 1.5 hour client felt he lacked engagement in his stand-up fighting. Last lesson we trained Muay Thai, but he wanted to explore this topic in Boxing. We used the following routine to better encourage moving into fight range.
Warm-up: muscle activation, dynamic stretching and 3 x 1 minute heavy bag work
10 x 3-minute sparring rounds:
One-for-one at medium/close range (encouraging immediate responses)
Inside vs outside (outside fighter is permitted to escape to a safe zone)
Ditto
"Against the ropes" (one fighter is not permitted to move their back heel away)
Attack vs counter-attack
Ditto
Front foot vs back-foot (aggressive vs defensive fighter)
Ditto
Two-for-two at medium/close range (maintaining engagement/overlapping counters)
Free sparring
Finisher: 16 minute high intensity heavy bag work out - alternating bursts of speed and power
Warm-down: PNF and static stretching
