The sixth hour of my client’s clinch course introduced a type of live flow sparring. We used Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling restrictions for three-minute rounds. These rounds always started with one person establishing a hold, usually a waist-lock. Their goal was to constantly establish holds whilst the opponent sought to break them. We decided that it worked better with freestyle, that the resistance levels needed to be worked out with experience and that is was best if only a certain number of established holds were permitted.
