Hour six had my teenage client focus entirely on the left hook. The process involved getting him to adapt with his left hand through jabbing, covering against the opponent's right whilst looking to get into position for the hook. I then moved onto throwing straights to the body in order to bring the opponent's hands down for the left hook to the head. Next we looked at using the straight right or cross to set up the left hook. Finally, we paired the hook with the body hook.
Combinations included:
jab/left hook, jab/cross to the body/left hook to the head, cross/left hook, left hook/cross, cross/left hook/cross, left hook/cross/left hook, cross/left hook the body/left hook to the head
The three-minute rounds looked like this:
Jabs only
Jab to the head/jab and cross to the body
Left hook versus cross
Jab/hook only against defence
Jab/hook versus jab/cross
Jab/cross to the body/hook to the head versus defence
Jab/cross to the body/hook to the head versus jab/cross
Cross/hook only
Cross/hook versus jab/cross
Body shots only sparring
Body shots and hooks to the head versus jab/cross
Heavy bag applying all of the above
