Tuesday morning's teacher training session with Athena School of Karate looked more at the muay plam style.
The rounds for the lesson were as follows:
Five minute full Muay Thai flow sparring
Two minutes hip bumping - this is another way to get a fighter to move in closer in the right position when clinching
Two minutes hip bumping with clinching
Two minutes collar and elbow only clinching
Two minutes under-hook/over-hook sparring
We intended to continue our work on the four sweeps introduced in the previous class. However, a tangent led to us exploring taking a sweep from a double over-hook position. The decision to focus on this particular move came from first approaching the backbreaker takedown. I had my client counter it with a double over-hook but rather than transition to something else thought it would be a good exercise to explore what could be done. Double under-hook takedowns are quite common in Greco-Roman Wrestling and styles of grappling that permit big hip movements. However, this isn't so straightforward in Muay Thai where such big hip movements aren't permitted. We looked at repositioning from an angle, using knee strikes where available and unbalancing an opponent depending on his reactions. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
