Mixed Martial Arts Personal Training: A Journey Through Shoot-Boxing

Updated: 3 days ago

The last private lesson of Monday evening wrapped up my couple client's Mixed Martial Arts Personal Training course. This particular plan focused on shoot-boxing, which covers the stand-up to clinch range of the sport. Tonight, we drew inspiration from the Jeff Chan seminar that one of the pair attended two weeks ago. We aimed to integrate those insights into our outdoor fighting practice.

MMA Personal Training Session Highlights: Focused on integrating shoot-boxing techniques with recent insights from a Jeff Chan seminar, our Monday evening class brought practical skills from the clinch range to outdoor fighting. Check out our new blog post for more details!

Specific Sparring Techniques

We used the following 3-minute rounds to train fighting from the outside. Each round was designed to build on the last, enhancing our skills progressively.

Rounds 1-3: Boxing Fundamentals

In the first three rounds, we practiced boxing with MMA gloves. We focused on maintaining our position at the outside range against the centre of the gym. This helped us develop our footwork and striking accuracy.

Rounds 4-6: Kickboxing Integration

The next three rounds followed the same format but employed kickboxing rules. This shift allowed us to incorporate kicks into our strategy while still focusing on our boxing fundamentals. It was a great way to blend techniques and keep our opponents guessing.

Rounds 7-9: Combining Techniques

In the final rounds, we were allowed to use kickboxing techniques from the outside range while seeking to clinch when inside. This combination tested our adaptability and strategic thinking. It was thrilling to see how quickly everyone adjusted their tactics.

We concluded our session with three rounds of free sparring, adhering to the shoot-kickboxing ruleset. This was where we could truly apply everything we had practiced. The energy in the gym was electric, and it felt rewarding to see the progress everyone made.
