End of Year Shoot-Kickboxing in my Couple Client's MMA Personal Training

22.12.2025

Couple personal training at the CCAM "Stable" - Private Training Gym

Hitting the fifth hour of my couple clients' 10-hour MMA Personal Training course brought us to two interesting evolutions of the shoot-boxing phase (effectively all stand-up MMA) and finished off this year's training.

Shoot-Boxing with Freestyle Wrestling - MMA Personal Training

We sparred for 3 x 3-minute rounds of freestyle wrestling with boxing punches permitted while wearing MMA gloves. The purpose of these rounds was to use punches to set up shots and also strike while defending a takedown.

Kickboxing versus Freestyle Wrestling

These 6 x 3-minute rounds pitted pure kickboxing strategies, tactics, and techniques (albeit while wearing MMA gloves and shin guards) against pure freestyle wrestling strategies, tactics, and techniques. The objective for the kickboxer was to score as many clean strikes as possible, losing only when the freestyle wrestler fully confirmed a clinch. The freestyle wrestler aimed to get that strong clinch or shoot without getting hit. From the kickboxer's perspective, the rounds promoted good footwork to avoid corners, low kicks to attack the wrestler's penetration step, and punching to the head. From the freestyle wrestler's perspective, the rounds promoted good stalking tactics, shin-checking, and covering in order to protect the clinch or shoot.
