Friday's three-hour workshop looked deconstructing boxing behaviours, building better defences, counter-punching and intuitive footwork skills.
After a light warm-up and muscle activation, we did some mirror line-work to establish footwork and active guard/head mobility. Then we moved onto the following sparring rounds.
Jabbing machine
Jabs one-for-one
Jab only sparring
Lead hand only sparring
No guard sparring
Attacks vs guard defence only against the wall/ropes
Attacks vs counters off the wall
Foot-stepping sparring
Foot-stepping with shoulder tag sparring
Outside vs inside boxing
Corner escape sparring (you must score without being hit before escaping)
Toe-to-toe sparring
Front foot vs back-foot sparring
Circuit (3-minute rounds)
Heavy bag - technique first minute/speed second minute/power third minute - straight punches only
Landmine bar - rotations first minute/single arm second minute/single arm second minute
Heavy bag - technique first minute/speed second minute/power third minute - hooks and uppercuts
The lesson finished with static and PNF stretching exercises.
