Slip the Jab & Move!

My client's fifth hour of Boxing returned us to working the jab, head movement and positioning. I ran through several games and drills to develop better coordination with all the above.


  1. Jab machine - this is a drill whereby the coach throws continuous jabs and the student look move around them to land a jab

  2. Jabs vs counters - this is a constraints-led sparring exercise where the student tries to avoid the jabs to land their own

  3. Chest and rear shoulder tag - here the student looks to palm the coach's chest and then immediately tag behind the coach's shoulder whilst avoiding jabs to the head

  4. Counters only sparring


We then shadow boxed, used the mirrors and also went to the bag to confirm footwork and head movement technique.
