08.02.2023 Wednesday night's junior and senior private lessons both focused on stand-up grappling. The junior class looked at using the collar-tie and the under-hook to set up the throw-by whereas the senior lesson went back over the ankle pick. During the former we continued to look at the detail previously taught when I introduced the ankle pick: the depth of the collar tie. Establishing this hold is very important to maintain control for the takedown. Next we took the under-hook and, in this instance, I aimed for the furthest shoulder blade with my grip. With these two positioned acquired the magic part was teaching the footwork. This is pendulum-like footwork generates momentum for the fighter to kick their leading leg upwards and to pretty much swing off the back of the opponent to achieve the takedown. This first lesson finished with 2 x 2 minute rounds of takedown sparring. The senior lesson focused on creating a better entrance behaviour for the ankle pick. We looked at explosively dropping the weight whilst snatching down the opponent's head. Here we also went over finer details of the trailing foot. From here we went into the shoot. This is a two-stage sequence. In stage one it is crucial to maintain the collar-tie whereas in stage one it is important to send the head away. We went over counters against the low block and posturing up. The lesson finished with a 5 minute round of takedown sparring. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
