Tiger by the Tail!

22.04.2025

Hour three of my client's current Wrestling for MMA course. There are certain constraints-led/specific sparring games that prove to be more challenging than anticipated. From my experience this is largely down to the intensity of the participants. A fun and playful game to under 10s turns into a virtual no holds barred fight for survival amongst testosterone-fuelled adults. Sometimes it is pretty much down to the conditions. Asymmetrical games, especially those where either participant has a fixed winning objective can be especially demanding. Even with this sort of expectation, my client and I were both surprised the workout we gave each other with the single leg takedown. Who would have thought three minutes of holding onto an opponent's leg trying to take them down trying to pull said leg free would prove to be so tough.

Our 6 x 3-minute round workout was as follows:

  1. Single leg tag

  2. Begin in single leg takedown position. One side tries to escape whilst the attempts to score the takedown.

  3. Ditto

  4. Ditto

  5. Ditto

  6. Freestyle Wrestling
