Hour eight of a 10-hour MMA course. As with my last lesson, my MMA client is interested in improving his clinch game with a particular emphasis on the wrestling arts. Last lesson we touched upon the use of headlocks. Tonight we looked at the most effective way to use side headlocks after sparred under certain gripping constraints:

  1. Secure inside grips without locking the hands

  2. Begin in a neutral clinch and try to lock the hands

  3. Move to the outside of the elbows

  4. Take-the-back vs secure inside grip

Sag headlock takedown into traditional scarf-hold: we worked on ensuring strong positioning throughout this hold.

Cross-buttocks throw: a natural extension of the previous throw.
