Training Couple Clients in MMA Personal Training
One of the many private lesson services I offer is teaching couples martial arts and self-protection. This began when one of this pair booked me to teach Muay Thai for around a year. During the lockdown of 2020, she involved her partner in my remote training. When she returned to regular training, they continued together and we have training that way ever since going through Boxing, Muay Thai, grappling and MMA. At present, we on the fourth hour an MMA Personal Training course, split into shoot-boxing where the clinch range is merged with boxing and kickboxing.
Shoot Boxing in MMA Personal Training
The previous lessons have focused the clinch side of training on Greco-Roman style Wrestling, training grips, holds and takedowns above the waist with no foot sweeps permitted. This has been trained whilst wearing MMA gloves. Likewise, boxing is also been explored separately wearing these gloves. Wearing the gloves is important in order to better work within MMA. It presents interesting challenges when trying to establish a hold in Wrestling and in attacking defending punches in Boxing.
Tonight's first three rounds effectively finished off the previous three lessons' theme by allowing punches from Boxing and Wrestling from Greco-Roman Wrestling.
Freestyle Wrestling versus Boxing
The next six rounds pitted Boxing against Freestyle Wrestling with all three of getting a chance to play both roles against each other in the sparring. The objective of the freestyle wrestler was catch part of the leg in a takedown entry whilst defending against punches. Meanwhile, the boxers looked to land as many clean shots as possible and avoid having their leg caught.
Training as always was challenging but fun. Next lesson will see restrictions in place designed to encourage pairing punches with shoots.
MMA Personal Training is just one of several different services I offer. Likewise, couple training is just one example of the many ways you can train with me. I offer private lessons, group lessons, workshops and seminars in bespoke self-protection and martial arts. Check out the link below.
