My client returned back to the dice method in his Thai Boxing Personal Training lesson. Being a long-term client of mine, he trains for 1.5 hours each time and we have the opportunity to delve into deeper challenges.
These dice roll lessons involve using an electronic die or dice rolling app. Each number that can be rolled corresponds with an objective the individual needs to achieve during their round of sparring. Each 3-minute round is full Thai rules, but only the designated technique or conditions connected to the rolled number can score. The first session was a single die with just six different randomised objectives. The next time we used two and so on. For this lesson, we had a 20-sided electronic dice. This means the objectives can be even more specific, taking advantage of the many tools a nak muay's disposal.
These were the 20 objectives I wrote with the lesson with their corresponding number:
Jabs
Crosses
Hooks
Uppercuts
Horizontal and slashing elbows
All point of elbow strikes (downward, backward, spear etc.)
Straight knees
Curve knees
Horizontal knees
Teeps
Round kicks to the body and head
Round kicks to the legs
Legal takedowns
Counters
Techniques in the clinch
Spinning techniques
Leg catches
Jumping techniques
Only combinations
Techniques after an opponent is cornered
We trained them over 12 x 3-minute rounds.
The lesson finished with a return to some Nordic curl training to help safeguard against hamstring injuries:
3 x 10 reps bent hip Nordic hamstring curl
3 x 10 reps negative Nordic curls
2 x 10 reps partial Nordic curls
2 x 10 reps pulsing Nordic curls
Our target is to achieve the full Nordic curl.
We then warmed down with our usual set of dynamic, PNF and static stretching.
