The Advantages of Personal Martial Arts Training
There’s something about having a coach who knows exactly where you’re at and what you need to improve. In group classes, the instructor has to split their attention among many students, which means you might miss out on crucial feedback. Personalised martial arts coaching flips that on its head.

Fighting Southpaws in Kickboxing
The final hour of my client's 10-hour Kickboxing course focused on handling southpaws. We used the strategy of keeping the lead foot on the outside and leading with rear hand. The proximity to an opponent offered by this position allows for faster delivery of teeps and rear hand straights. Meanwhile, the outside techniques have to be adapted to up-jabs, question mark uppercuts, hooks, lead over hands and outside round kicks.

Further Training From the Turtle Position in Submission Grappling
In the world of submission grappling, mastering the turtle position can significantly influence the outcome of a match. During our fifth hour of training with my clients, we took a close look at this position, honing in on weight sensitivity and distribution. This session was not only about learning the mechanics of the turtle position but about grasping the nuances that can either lead to victory or leave an opening for a counterattack.

Exploring Ecological Dynamics in Martial Arts Training Through a Constraints-Led Approach
Tonight, I had the pleasure of running the first of three teaching consultation sessions for my client from the Hostlebro Taekwondo Klub in Denmark. This session focused on enhancing his black belt essay paper. Given the geographical distance between us—me in the UK and him in Denmark—he chose my remote learning option. This flexibility allows me to teach students worldwide, provided they have a Wi-Fi connection.

Learning Kickboxing Combinations Through Live Practice
Many students learning kickboxing often fall into a trap of memorising techniques; they learn them in a parrot fashion. They struggle to understand how to apply these techniques in a real fight setting. This is where live practice becomes essential.

Two-Hour Workshop on Countering the Muay Thai Long Guard
In martial arts, the ability to adapt is vital. On Thursday, I had the pleasure of leading a two-hour workshop focused on countering the Muay Thai long guard at the Chimera Stable gym. This event, tailored for students from Hinnerup Karate in Denmark and Zanshin Karate in the UK, was more than a class; it was a hands-on learning experience filled with interaction and teamwork. Drawing from my recent teaching sessions, I integrated fresh insights into our strategies.
